This program is designed for healthcare professionals holding a bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation fields such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, exercise physiology, and athletic training, the program was developed to provide evidence-based education that prepares them to become a leader in the healthcare community. The three main objectives of the program are to provide them and other currently practicing clinicians with: advanced evidence-based knowledge in specialty areas of clinical practice that will enhance clinical decision making; advanced research skills that will increase the amount and quality of clinical-based research conducted; and, advanced leadership skills to provide services in new and emerging practice areas.

Program modules covered are: Required courses - OT 701 Information Technology Lab; OT 540 Scientific Inquiry I; OT 626 Current Issues in Rehabilitation; OT 627 Rehabilitation Theory; OT 569 Scientific Inquiry II; OT 800 Thesis Research. Concentrations: select three courses from one concentration plus a fourth course from any other concentration. Pediatric concentration - EDG 740 Assistive Technology in the Schools; OT 596 Current Topics in Pediatric OT; OT 615 Early Intervention and School Based Practice. Applied Ergonomics concentration - OT 571 Work Practice II; DPT 734 Applied Ergonomics; OT 728 Current Issues in Ergonomics. Exercise Physiology concentration - DPT 724 Advanced Cardiopulmonary Assessment and Rehab-Life Span; BIO 536/836 Pathophysiology; DPT 757 Bioenergetics and Weight Control; HHP 571 Advanced Exercise Physiology. Education concentration - EDG 521/821 Human Learning and Motivation; EDG 507/807 Curriculum Development; EDG 528/828 Strategies for Effective College Teaching; MSN 877 Teaching and Evaluation in Nurse Education. Adult Rehabilitation concentration - OT 592 Rehabilitation Science: Upper Extremities; DPT 707 Advanced Anatomy and Kinesiology; DPT 728 Tests and Measures - Adult; DPT 736 Tissue Biomechanics; DPT 754 Psychosocial Dimensions of Health Impairment; DPT 755 Differential Diagnosis of the Client with Multisystem Involvement. Athletic Training concentration - MSRS 530 Sports Medicine Concepts; HHP 501 Manual-Based Soft Tissue Examination and Treatment; MSRS 540 Functional Assessment and Dynamic Rehabilitation.

Applicants applying for admission should have an undergraduate degree in a rehabilitation-related profession, minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and license in occupational therapy, physical therapy, athletic training, exercise physiology or related rehabilitation field. Graduate entrance exams such as the GRE are not required.
