Engineers are responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of large civil infrastructure systems. Traditionally, the primary ingredients of these three activities have been safety and economics. In this context, practicing engineers are concerned with providing technical services that satisfy the primary functional demands of the system. Until recently, natural resources were perceived as unlimited and little concern was given to the environmental consequences of construction materials manufacturing processes. Currently however, when the negative impact on the environment is widely understood and the natural resources depleted, it is necessary and important for engineers to take a more holistic approach to the design process and materials selection. The Sustainable Infrastructure Track will emphasize the importance of the aforementioned broader design prospective and provide students with knowledge and tools required to implement this new design philosophy.

Students must have completed their bachelors degree for admission into masters degree. Some departments require a GPA of 3.0. The minimum acceptable scores for TOEFL are paper-based 550, computer-based 213, and internet-based 80. TOEFL scores are valid for two years from the test date..Recent GRE exam scores are also required.
