This program emphasizes the interaction between these two areas and the common role of scientific computation. Students can take courses common to both areas, enabling them to gain an appreciation of the mathematical techniques and the connections between theory and applications. There are two areas of concentration: pure mathematics and applied mathematics. Department research interests include classical analysis, harmonic analysis, Fourier analysis, approximation theory, algebra, number theory, graph theory, combinatorics, fluid mechanics, biomathematics, differential equations, numerical analysis, and modeling.

Students should have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with satisfactory scores on the Graduate Record Examination. They should have certified as a teacher of mathematics or experience teaching secondary school mathematics. International students should have a minimum acceptable TOEFL score of 80 on the internet based, 213 on the computer based, 550 on the paper based and a minimum of IELTS score of 6.5 is required for admission.
