This program is designed for graduate students who are interested in further study of teaching, learning, and schooling but who do not seek a teaching certificate from New York State (unless they are teachers who received their NYS Provisional Certification prior to 2004 and seek permanent certification in their area before 2011). This degree program allows student maximum flexibility in designing an individualized course of study, as there are a minimum of required courses. Moreover, they have the option to design independent study courses, based on participation in ongoing school-based research and/or reforms conducted by Teaching and Curriculum faculty.

Master's Core (6 credits): ED 406 Master's Research Methods; ED 404 Teaching, Curriculum, and Change; OR EDU 442 Race, Class, Gender, and Disability in American Education.

Applicants must have received a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent by the time they enter the program at Warner, with the exception of those applying to early admission programs. Applicants must have the ability to do graduate work at the University of Rochester, as demonstrated by their past academic performance and their academic writing skills. Applicants must demonstrate sufficient communication and interpersonal skills to perform well in their chosen career in education. Applicants career goals, professional interests, academic background, attitudes and philosophy must be consistent with the programs offered by the Warner School and its stated mission.
