This program focuses on connecting theory of effective teaching processes and the practice of effective teaching in physical education. In addition to learning about appropriate teaching methods, students in the program will graduate with valuable experiences in the field. Students will conduct research based on individual interest within the field and engage in hands-on learning with professors, undergraduate physical education teacher education students, and elementary/secondary students. They have job opportunities in the field of Teaching and research in higher education, Physical education teacher (Rank I and Rank II), Intramural positions, Athletic Director, YMCA, and Park Districts.

Students should have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with adequate preparation in health, physical education, or related fields. Students should have obtained a minimum of 2.75 undergraduate grade point average (4.0=A) on all work attempted and a total score of 800 or above on the quantitative and verbal areas of the Graduate Record Examination.
