This program contains a flexible curriculum that launches students into the study of cities and the urban environment. The interdisciplinary nature of the program allows students to tailor their education to career aspirations and/or interests of their own choosing. The program is designed to accommodate both full and part time attendees. It can be completed in either two full semesters or a summer session or over a longer period of time. In combining both theory and practice, the program seeks to foster an understanding of urban ism while teaching practical skills to prepare students for the changing urban environment.

The modules include Core Requirements: URBG 790 Workshop (formerly Workshop I); URBG 792 Urban Affairs Capstone (formerly Urban Affairs Seminar); URBG 787.66 Urban Affairs Internship; Required Disciplines One of each of the following is required: Political Structure Requirement: URBG 702 Structure of the Urban Region; URBG 758 Governing the City; URBP 734 Environmental Planning; Methods/Skills Requirement: URBG 791 Grant writing and Fundraising Practicum (formerly Workshop II); URBG 710 Urban Data Analysis; GTECH 710 GIS: Intro to GIS.

Students must hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution, comparable in standard and content to a bachelor’s degree from Hunter College. Degrees granted on the basis of work completed at institutions which are not fully accredited, or on the basis of non-academic prior learning, test scores, and other than organized supervised course work in academic subjects will not be considered comparable. They should have obtained a “B” average for courses in the area of specialization, an overall “B minus” average for the baccalaureate, and a “B” average for any courses taken on the graduate level. A minimum grade point average of 3.0 is also required. Admission is offered only to those students who are fully prepared in English as demonstrated in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The TOEFL requirement is determined by their academic background and is not affected by their US legal status, US citizenship or US permanent residency does not exempt the students from the TOEFL requirement. Students should have obtained the minimum TOEFL score of 550 on paper based test; 233 on computer based test; and 68 (less speaking component) on internet based test.
