This program is one of UMBC’s oldest graduate degree programs, and has been educating students for over 35 years. This program offers a variety of flexible options in course topics and delivery methods. Students have the opportunity to choose five elective courses in their program. Coursework can be chosen from areas such as performance improvement, online learning, instructional technology, project management, managing training and performance programs and more. Coursework usually includes hands-on projects that help students reach their professional goals. Additionally, students can enroll in a combination of on-campus and online courses. On completion of this course, graduates are hired in a variety of positions that include instructional designer, instructional technology specialist, training coordinator, training manager, staff development manager, e-learning specialist, performance consultant, organizational development specialist, and more.

Students must have obtained a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university or an equivalent degree from a comparative foreign institution. No specific undergraduate degree, GRE or GMAT scores are required. International applicants are expected to read, speak, write and understand the English language fluently. Those whose native language is not English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Minimum TOEFL scores of 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computeri-based test) or 80 (internet-based test) are required.
