The M.A.T. degree requires 45 semester hours of graduate-level course work, with 6-15 credits in professional education, 15-24 credits in the teaching content area, and 15 hours in internship and seminar. Eligibility for admission is limited to those persons seeking initial teacher certification. Candidates must complete additional course work in professional education and/or their teaching content area at the undergraduate and graduate levels as necessary.

Applicants must have earned a baccalaureate or higher degree with a grade point average of 2.50 or higher from an accredited college or university. International students whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency by obtaining minimum TOEFL score of 570 (paper-based) or 80 (internet-based). Applicants may also take the International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) in lieu of the TOEFL. A minimum score of 6.5 is required for the IELTS. Admission also requires submission of scores on either the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT).
