This program provides focus for teaching, learning, research, and scholarship concerning taxation. The program provides students with enhanced practical skills to identify issues and solve both planning and controversy problems in the tax arena. Professional responsibility in tax practice is stressed, and students learn to appreciate the purposes of the tax system and how that system affects individual, commercial, and financial affairs.

Students must be graduates of an ABA accredited law school or foreign lawyer of a foreign law school of equivalent stature or admitted to practice before the highest court in their jurisdiction and must present evidence of their ability to perform satisfactory graduate work through high grade point average or class standing at the undergraduate law level. Students from non-English-speaking countries must score at least 600 on the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or 100 on the Internet-based test.
