The primary goal of the marriage and family therapy program is to train competent therapists to do therapy with a wide range of mental health problems. Therapists are trained to help with concerns about marriage, children, adolescents, mental illness, depression, sexual issues, divorce, family, school, health, and emotional difficulties.

Applicants to be considered for admission to a master's degree program must have: a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, a 2.75 grade point average over the last half of undergraduate education (four full semesters or equivalent)., met the minimum score requirement on the GRE or GMAT and must have higher standards for admission to a degree program may be established by a department. International applicants must have score of 79 or higher on the Internet-based exam with no sub score below 17, or a score of 550 or higher on the paper-based exam, a score of 6.5 or higher on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and must have graduated from a university in the United States with a 2.75 cumulative GPA or higher.
