In this program, students across all tracks of study work through the progression of classes as a cohort and collaborate on projects within class and in the productions. The combination of rigorous studio training, diverse production experience, professional networking, and mentoring by the artists of the alley theatre will provide a launch for a career like no other program in the country. The artists coming out of this program will be notable for combining five inter-locking qualities: Imagination - broadened in studio training, honed in productions; the creative fuel. Agility - the facility to adapt to new visions, new collaborators, new materials, new techniques across a variety of environments. Precision - the ability to talk about the work and through the work clearly, concisely, and completely. Passion - the graduates thrive in this field because they have a great fire within for the art and craft of the theatre. Speed - the range to shift sensibilities to match the tempo needed for each particular project, whether it’s fast, medium or slow.

The modules are first semester - 12 credits: Color Theory - 3 credits, Technology - 3 credits (Flat Pattern or Scenic Carpentry), Technology - 3 credits (Couture Techniques or Metal Working), Dramaturgical Theory for the 20th Century - 3 credits, Director/Design Collaboration. Second Semester - 12 credits: Lighting Design or Costume Design or Scenic Design- 3 credits, Digital Techniques - 3 credits, Technology - 3 credits (Draping or Project Management), Technology - 3 credits (Fabric Painting and Dying or CAD I), Director/Design Collaboration. Third Semester - 12 credits: Technology - 3 credits (Millinery or CAD II), Technology - 3 credits (Period Construction I or Structural Design), Alley Theatre Technology - 3 credits, Dramatic Theory and Criticism - 3 credits, Director/Design Collaboration. Fourth Semester - 12 credits: Technology - 3 credits (Period Construction II or Automation), Technology - 3 credits (Elective), Alley Theatre Technology - 3 credits, Director/Design Collaboration.

Students must have earned a four-year baccalaureate degree or higher degree from an accredited college or university, equivalent of a U.S. Bachelor’s degree. Students should have a 3.00 grade point average (A=4.00) on the most recent 60 semester hours of undergraduate coursework. Students must undergo assessment (audition and present their portfolios) by the senior faculty member in their area. Students should have secured a minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or 79 (internet-based) on the test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or overall band score of 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
