An interdisciplinary Ph.D. is offered with three specialty areas: materials processing; geotechnical and environmental; and intelligent systems.A plan of study is developed on an individual basis by your advisor and a special committee. All plans of study must include a set of designated core courses (a list is available in the dean's office) and an appropriate research focus. The plan must include at least 15 credit hours from each of two departments in the Russ College of Engineering and Technology or 12 credit hours from each of three departments. A minimum of 23 hours of coursework must be at the 600 level or above, including 10 hours at the 700/800 level. A minimum of 90 credit hours above the M.S. (including 45 credit hours for the dissertation) is required. The plan must be approved by your dissertation advisory committee and the integrated engineering steering committee.

An M.S. in engineering or a related field is required for admission. Further admissions information is available from the associate dean for research and graduate studies of the Russ College of Engineering and Technology.Students must clear through the Ohio Program for Intensive English (OPIE) before starting the graduate program in Civil Engineering.The student must state his/her major area of interest.he student's advisor should be identified prior to the end of the second quarter of enrollment. Until an advisor is identified, the Department Graduate Chair will assist the student in course selections. A change of advisor may be made only by a formal agreement by the faculty involved and the Department Graduate Chair.The student's M.S. Committee will be selected by the major advisor with approval by the Graduate Committee. The committee will consist of at least three faculty members -- the student's major advisor, one member from the CE Department, and one member from outside the Department designated as the College Representative. A change in this committee may be made only by a formal agreement of the faculty involved and the Department Graduate Committee. The College's Committee Arrangement Form should be submitted after formation of the M.S. Committee.A 3.00/4.00 cumulative graduate GPA in the student's approved course of study. No grade less than C (2.00) is acceptable in any course work used to satisfy any graduate requirement. Students who do not have computer skills are required to take ET 240 or an equivalent course. No more than six years can be taken to complete requirements for the masters degree. A student must complete a minimum of forty-five credit hours of approved graduate work.
