his program is specifically designed for students interested in pursuing careers in research and leadership in the areas health policy, health services, and health care management. As a core discipline within the field of public health, health policy and management focuses on the creation of new knowledge and the application of research findings to improve the effectiveness of public health and health service organizations within and across the public, private, and non-profit sectors both domestically and internationally. With a Ph.D. degree in HPM, students will be prepared to take on new roles as scientific and policy leaders and administrators in academic, governmental, non-governmental, and industry settings. During the program, students will learn to develop and conduct health policy, health services, and health management research and to translate, apply, and communicate their findings to improve the public’s health. The first three years of the program will be focused on completing a wide-variety of learning experiences, including traditional classroom-based instruction, advanced graduate seminars, field-based learning activities with real-world policymakers, and opportunities to participate in faculty research projects. During the final two years of the program, students will design and carry out an original dissertation research project to demonstrate and apply their expanding professional knowledge.

Applicants must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university A cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on all prior completed degree programs, although it is anticipated that many applicants will have completed a post baccalaureate degree in public health or other health related discipline. Applicants are also expected to have minimum of one year of undergraduate mathematics (e.g. algebra, statistics or finite math) and competent written and oral communication skills. International applicants must have a minimum TOEFL score of 213 (computer-based version), 79 (Internet-based version) or an IELTS score of 6.5 or successful completion of ELS Language Centers Intensive Program Level 112. Students from Japan must have a "Pre-First Grade" score on the STEP Eiken.
