The Department of Science Education at Syracuse University draws upon both the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Education to provide excellent preserves and in-service science teacher preparation. The faculty is devoted to preparing outstanding science teachers at the elementary, secondary, and college levels; supervising students in the field; conducting enrichment programs for teachers and students; and guiding Ph.D. students in several doctoral degree programs.

Graduate students have the option of living in University-owned housing on South Campus or in off-campus apartments or houses. Apartment-style university housing is available in Slocum Heights on South Campus, about two miles from Main Campus. Free shuttle bus service is available. These apartments are furnished, utilities are included, and one communications fee covers phone, cable and internet service. Apartment layouts, virtual tours, and associated costs are all available on the University's Housing. There are also numerous apartment complexes and rental houses that the graduate students choose to live in. Many are within walking distance or on the bus line.
