The department of psychology is a part of the College of Science and typically has between 10 and 15 full-time faculty members, between 3 and 6 part-time instructors, over 600 undergraduate majors, and between 30 and 40 graduate students. The faculty is committed to teaching on both the undergraduate and graduate level. Undergraduate students receive instruction in the science of human behavior through a curriculum that prepares them for graduate education in psychology or a related field or for a diversity of other careers. In addition, the department has two doctoral programs in Applied Biopsychology and Applied Developmental Psychology, both of which focus on understanding, preventing, and treating problems in adjustment from either a biological or developmental perspective. T he department is also committed to the urban mission of the University of New Orleans: to support the educational, economic, cultural, and social well being of the culturally rich and diverse New Orleans metropolitan area.

Pontchartrain Hall is a state of the art residence hall located on the main campus of the University of New Orleans. This residence facility consists of two separate and complete residence halls, Pontchartrain Hall North and Pontchartrain Hall South. They are located adjacent to each other on the corner of Milneburg Street and Leon C. Simon Boulevard. All bedrooms are private and fully furnished. Living room areas in all suites are also fully furnished. Both buildings have an Honors Wing, as well as Disabled Accessible suites. Featured amenities of the Pontchartrain Halls, North and South include: 9ft ceilings, built in closets, laundry facilities (in both buildings), a game room featuring a wide variety of interactive and fun diversions, a Convinces Express Store on the premises, study and activity lounges, wireless Internet and cable television in lounges and lobbies, security cameras and card access, 225 conveniently located parking spaces.
