It wasn't that difficult as what I first thought it would be for me to settle down here. My university experience has been pretty good so far and I'm enjoying every single bit of it. My advice would be to get yourselves involve in as many activities as possible and meet new people but make sure you don't neglect your studies!
The selection process is quite reasonable. As long as you meet certain academic criteria, it shouldn't be a problem for you to be awarded a place at Monash. I'm a transferred student from the Malaysian campus. I was only required to send in my application and the staffs back there basically assisted me throughout the entire process. There were some problems here and there for my visa but overall it wasn't too troublesome at all. Start applying early and avoid delaying visa, medical check-up etc.
Monash does send emails regularly to students regarding the scholarship/funding opportunities available. It is not easy to obtain these unless you are really good. They can also be found on the university website.
The duration of my course is three years. Students are required to complete a total of 24 units in order to complete this course. Normal workload is four units per semester and there are two semesters in a year. Contact hours for each commerce unit are usually three hours per week. Most of my lecturers and tutors are helpful and they can be consulted after class. Fees have been increasing each and every year and this is not good at all !
Monash does provide first class facilities. Even though I live in a suburb, it is quite convenient to travel around with public transport. Melbourne city itself is a nice place to live in. I stay in an off-campus rented property together with a few friends. The location is quite strategic but it is slightly pricey ! It is possible to find part-time jobs and they do have clubs and societies specifically catered for international students.
I do believe my job prospects have increased as a result of my studies but I'm also aware that it would depend on my human skills to secure a job in the future. I'm not sure if I'll be keeping in touch with fellow alumni but once I've completed my studies, I'll start looking for jobs.
