Well being in MQU, it's a sure thing that you won't be lonely. It seems like every corner I turn it's someone to know or met in other modules. I think that is really important in uni, to have a good support group during your time of studies. University is really fun, there are a lot of events, social gatherings and yet the academic side of uni will mind boggle you and put you into internal conflict with your self self subjectivity.
As long as you read the fine lines, like in any form, you will be okay. I got a representative from idp to handle my entry for me and I got in with my eyes close. As long as you have the grades, you will be fine. As Singaporean, there isn't much problems in getting a visa, just a waiting time.
Funding and scholarships are many, its how you research to get them. The university hands out a few, which you can find out from the international house or academic advisers. It's just a few forms to be filled out and getting referees. Though it takes some time for the money to get into your hands, also the local colleges have their own scholarships if you stay with them.
Media and Cultural studies will open your mind to a lot of concepts and usually hit on sensitive topics like gender and racism. There are just a lot of isms in this course, a lot of theorist and their theories. If you want a really mind blowing experience, just do a few philosophy subjects. There are really fun and they will hand strengthen your basics. Each subject is about 2-3 hours a week, no including the long hours in the library. You will get very strong arms from carrying books. The tutors are always just an email away, so there is nothing to worry about.
Well there is a new train station being built so that is really great, it should have been built long ago! However, the current bus system is pretty good as well, but unlike Singapore.... the buses can be really really slow (maybe it comes every half an hour, but it's the same all over Sydney) I used to stay in an apartment in Eastwood, a nearby town, it has a lot of good and fresh food there and an annual Granny Smith Fest. It's a MUST GO! Currently for my final semester, I'm staying in a local college. It's near school, but it's has a lot of downsides like it's administration. BUT, staying by yourself means cooking, cleaning, bills, bills and bills! If you are organised living by yourself is fine, as long as you get good house mates and cheap good accommodations.
University papers are important. You must must must have it. I think being in MQU put me above others also it's way cheaper then the other universities in Sydney. My presentational and writing skills have gotten a lot better these years. Though I'm not sure here, since I'm just hammering over my keyboard, but it changes you. I'm not sure about joining the alumni, but I have made great friends all over the world. It just seems that I've made more international friends then Australian friends. Maybe it's just my course...
