In order to be a good fashion writer, I thought it would be important to have a good understanding of how garments are designed and constructed. I arrived at Leicester College with no sewing skills and now I am able to create my own dressmaking patterns, hats, jewellery and fully structured corsets. I have produced different designs from 1920s flapper dresses to outrageous club wear.
Some of the great things about this course are the amount of professional skills you gain, the excellent fashion field trips to the V and A Museum and just being with other like minded creative people. I have learnt so much on this course and now I want to passionate about fashion in a different way such as through the media and writing about it. My next step is to go straight onto year two of the BA(Hons) Writing. Fashion and Culture at Southampton University.
