MTSU is really providing me with the educational and hands-on experiences I need to reach my goals. It will do the same for you. Come be one of Tennessee’s Best at Middle Tennessee State University. I came to MTSU for several reasons. One, my dad went to school here and while I was growing up, all I heard was what a good school MTSU was. He attributes his success as a professional to the education and experiences he had here. Two, it’s close to home. My parents live in the Dominica, but I live in Clarksville with my sister. I didn’t want to go too far away. And third, the cost. MTSU offered a great education at a great cost. I’m happy to pay my way through MTSU in order to receive a top-notch education.

I’m a Mechanical Engineering Technology major, and I’d like to go on to graduate school to become an automotive engineer. I think the fuels we use are going to change and I want to be a part of that. But for right now, I really love it here. MTSU is a large school, but not so large that you have to sacrifice individual attention. My classes in engineering are really small. I see the same people in most of my classes and so we are able to develop better relationships in and out of the classroom. And my professors are always there when I need them. I can talk to them during their office hours, e-mail them anytime, and some even have given us their cell phone numbers to be more accessible. Because of its size, MTSU offers many opportunities to me and my fellow students. I participate in the Formula One Society of Auto Engineers—and we built a Formula One race car. We designed it, built it, and raced it at competitions. We design in the fall and build in the spring. We have to have the car done in April because that’s when the competitions start. We have to pay to be a part of this once-in-a-lifetime experience, but the experience is worth every penny. The cars cost about $18,000 to $20,000 to build and the entrance fees for the competition are about $1,000. But it gives us a number of opportunities for networking. Many automotive engineers come out to the competitions to seek out potential employees. All of this— my classes, the Formula One experience, my friends—have been excellent. College isn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. The students here are ready and willing to work. The students here actually motivate you to do better. And I actually go to the library here. I want to get the most out of my education and that helps.
