I needed to have some core skills and knowledge to enable me to fulfill my goal of owning my own hotel one day. I gained a great deal of knowledge from my subjects especially Event Management, which provided me with a lot of information on the range of events.
I gained a great deal of knowledge from my subjects especially Event Management, which provided me with a lot of information on the range of events. This enabled me to prioritise operational processes involved in an event. This prepared me for what to expect in my placement at the Venetian.
The thing that I enjoy most is exposure in working with managers and a variety of experiences with wide ranging exhibitions. I have also been exposed to a variety of ways to solve workplace conflict. You gain an awareness from meeting people with diverse cultures from around the world. The most important factor for those who want to join the Hospitality Industry is to consider their personal intentions. If people do not have the passion for hospitality, then they can not meet the whole customer service expectation, and will lose the significance of what the true definition of what hospitality is all about.
I am working at the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel and my position is Events Assistant. As an Events Assistant, I need to have an understanding of what the exhibition process encompasses, knowledge of Venue Management and how to assist the Exhibition manager through each of these processes. Work Integrated Learning Program enabled me to put what I learnt in my degree studies into practice. It also gave me a great insight into the industry and future working opportunities. My plans from here are to learn more about the industry in the vast array of opportunities available.
