I got my bachelor from YALE and am so disappointing to have decided to take the graduate research scholarship from NUS. True, NUS is considered to be one of the good universities in SE Asia. I think the ranking is and will just gonna stay there. School investment is spent to make sure the university looks good superficially. But once you are a student, you will experience numerous inflexibility and inefficiencies of academic conduct. It takes hours to find out what classes are offered each semester (not to mention, you can only see them 1 wk before school starts) I really wonder why NUS does not publish these courses (available in semester 1 or 2) ahead of time, in ONE easy to use website. Quality of professors is YUCK! Many cant even speak English well. If NUS boasts itself to be an "international" institution, then it should have ensured that their professors are the calibers and know how to lecture ! Wish I could back out !!

New applicants only see the superficial side of the school. They may not know the quality of professors, messy course scheduling, course drop dead line that makes no sense, etc. Getting in is hard because they receive tons of applicants.

If you do research, you'll get scholarship. It's not much at all because stipend will be used to pay for housing, etc.

Worst experience ever !! Graduate courses are run by inexperienced professors who can't teach. I usually enroll in classes that are taught by the American or European professors because they know how to teach. Otherwise, expect boring classes ! very static - zero interaction. It's all memorization from text book. Oh, many courses use your attendance for grading. SAD! I thought universities should treat students like adults.

As a foreigner, I thought the university were a friendly place. I was wrong ! Bus transportation is horrible. Drivers are really rude and can't even speak English. Student housing is out of the equation. Expect to find your own - and be careful on this area especially if you're a foreigner. If you need to find private accommodation, talk to other foreigners as they experience the same thing.

Not sure about job prospects. At least, if you know the back draws of the institution early, you can network with foreign professors easily and this can help with job searching. If you can afford going to schools in the US, I'd recommend that!
