I landed at OHare International Airport, Chicago. Then got a Van Galder bus to Madison, journey time 2.5 hours, fare $20. No specific baggage rules. Just the general ones like not more than two check-in bags, net weight of each < 20 kgs, no duty items etc etc. NO excess baggage. No immigration issues. A meet and greet service was offered at Madison.
I was given a handsome stipend of $2000 (total for 2 months, exclusive of airfare).
Excellent research environment at the university. Student ID was provided hence access to all student facilities was possible, no lectures attended.
University dorms (which were comfortable enough and much like our hostel rooms) were provided, everything except lunch/dinner costs was covered. Summer time in Madison is to make merry. People were a congenial crowd. Night life was colourful and safe.
