Friends, please dont see what kind of university you come through, see how much your efforts matter in the university, when I chose this university people joked they never heard about it, but you dont study books here. If you think u can thrive on practicality and conceptual thinking then you can succeed here. My advice to all first timers is to choose one stop destination travel. This kind of travel will ease on you and also makes your plan and arrival little easier and hassle free. I would also add that what I heard from the experience of fellow students please arrange your pick prior to your arrival you dont want to be stranded on the airport and the cops looking as if u had a beard and turban. Please email the student org or the International Students Organization. No harm in mailing the more often to have a check. This is always advised by the International Student Org also.
I had to write GRE and TOEFL as a part of admission process. I prepared with CDs from Kaplan and Barrons book. I did not go to any coaching in this regard. I would say I used the services of libraries, I read a lot of stuff did some research but I dint take any help from education counselors. I needed a F1 visa. The visa interview was a normal one, people would give u jitters about somethings that have happened before. I was in all sweat when I went for the interview but it was normal 30 seconds one. I got my visa. One should have their documents straight and should not make mistakes in that. I travelled by Lufthansa from Chennai, India to Frankfurt and from Frankfurt to Detroit, MI. The airline as far as I know did not offer any student fare. My travel was comfortable. I landed in Mcnamara terminal, Detroit, MI. I did not contact any student org since my sibling was there to pick me up. The airport is about 20 miles from my university .I did not face any immigration issues. The officers at the port of entry are friendly but watch you with a grin on their face.
The regular GAs, RAs and TAs. For international students these are some of the considered scholarships.
The program was structured good but the inclusion of perquisite courses which was not even necessary was something you should look out for. What does financial principles do with information systems? The professors except for a few need to be more skilled I think. The basic necessities like library and lecture halls are good and also very clean and well maintained. The library here in my university is a huge knowledge base. We have a indoor and outdoor stadium in our university. Active sports culture always prevails throughout the university.
The accommodation varies according to person. If you want to you can stay in the dorms. I stay out close to the university. Part time jobs in the universities is bit difficult atleast in my university where its like a relay race most of the students recommend people they know its one should be highly competitive even to get a part time job. Its desis everywhere in and around Ann Arbor.
I dont know about any placement calls, but yes there is always some visiting lecturers and company executives educating students about their company. I noticed one thing students please do not have a resume in your hand and give it to any company executives. It embarrassing for them and will be for you when you find that its not been used. Talk to them make them give you their visiting card or business card. Email them after two weeks and not respected or dear sir. A simple straight forward one. International students have enough amount of knowledge base in them , once they apply practically they can get the best jobs anywhere. The campus process is a streamlined one , as I said the universities will have visiting company executives talk about their company and their profile. Then there will be a workshop which will have these companies. You can submit your resume to the company you want and leave the rest to them. I am not an alumni still. But there is a good alumni society in our university and many stay connected through it. Alumni sometimes help with placements ,but it would be only a 45% contribution.
