Starting as a graduate software developer gave me the chance to put all the theory I had learned at university into practise. It was exciting to be contributing to a large commercial project.
Graham technology produces new release of their product with short development iterations, so there was always a buzz. Being subject to commercial pressures was an exciting part of the job. Customers would request new enhancements which could range from trivial changes to major redesigns. The job was not all about programming, you could be asked to get involved in the business side of operations, traveling around the world, eliciting clients needs and planning how best to actually deliver software to meet their requirements. My degree prepared me very well for all these challenges.
After graduation I went to work with Graham Technology, one of Scotlands leading software companies. They supply business process modelling software to a variety of large organisations around the world.
