I was a graduate student at Claremont from 1965 to 1970. I earned an M.A. in Asian Studies in 1966 and a Ph.D. in Government in 1970. Additionally, I have attended three other universities for my graduate studies, but, I found Claremont to be the leading institution of quality higher education in the United States. The faculty was remarkably outstanding and very gifted in research productivity and instruction.

Claremont is not easy to get admitted. It has a very selective admission standards. However, on a case to case basis, it will admit students with less than sterling marks and bet more on their potentials than on their undergraduate achievements. In 1965, the visa process was very easy. I arrived in 1960 for an undergraduate education in a nearby state university. After graduation with a B.A. degree, I was admitted at Claremont.

A year after my admission, I was given a fellowship covering full tution and fees, and a part-time position working at the Honnold Library.

I was fortunate to study with some of the best professors in the field. At Claremont, all students have access to the faculty at other colleges, such as, Pomona, Claremont McKenna, Havey Mudd, Scripps, and at Pitzer. I had the privilege of studying with Merrill R. Goodall, George S. Blair, Herbert W. Schneider and Hans Ruyter. During my time, Claremont was rated 35th best graduate school in the United States.

Claremont is one of the most beautiful small towns in California. It is only 40 miles away from Los Angeles, Hollywood, Disneyland, and Palm Springs (the City of Bob Hope). Additionally, it is rated as the safest city to study and live in. It has a charm of a small town with several ethnic restaurants, such as, Indians, Afgani, Chinese, Thai, Italians, etc. And there are several wonderful bakeries. There are many international student clubs and associations to join, more than you need.

While completing my doctorate, I was employed as a lecturer to teach at a neighbouring state university. Since then, I have been teaching, for more than 40 years including serving as Academic Dean at two major universities in the United States.
