My desire to undertake a PhD at Exeter was a careful and studied decision. I chose this university for my studies in tourism because of the people working in this area and more specifically my supervisors. The quality of supervision was of a high standard and the availability of my supervisors as well as their wide range of knowledge about tourism supported me to the maximum degree. Furthermore, my independent working space as well as the easy access to various resources facilitated my task. I strongly believe that I was part of the research society in the centre for tourism studies at the university.

The environment of the centre was friendly and my colleagues were always approachable and open for guidance and discussion. In addition, the opportunity to participate in a series of workshops concerning various topics offered by the university's generic skills programme gave me insights for the successful completion of my PhD.
