Case is perhaps most known for its BME program. If you know that BME is the right track for you, then Case is a great place to go. Great research exists in any subspecialty of BME. Professors are very welcoming of students wanting to get involved in research as early as freshman year. I will admit, the professors are sometimes too busy (research, and not students, is their priority)... You will have to fight for their time. But they will be helpful when you get ahold of them... So basically, you have to be a very proactive independent student in order to get the most out of the BME program. Do not choose BME if medschool is your priority, unless you plan on pursuing an MD/PhD. My recommendation if you are not sure if this is the best major for you: sit in on some of the lectures in the intro to BME class (do not actually take the class as it is a waste). Take the physiology courses your freshman year. That way you make decisions about whether BME is the right choice early on. Not only that, but you get the chance to make more proper decisions about the electives you get to take. BME is a broad degree, you will be attacked from other engineers telling you that you dont know enough engineering. Focus your track as much as possible. Take elective classes so that your curriculum is similar to the respective discipline (bioelectric - electrical engineer, biomechanics - mechanical engineer, and such).

Case has a high admission rate (~75%), and they love international students with good grades and well written essays.

While Case is known to be generous in its financial aid, I'm afraid not much is offered for international students.

Courses in the BME department can be demanding. Many of the classes are going to be large 70+ students, and as you progress in your track, the classes get smaller. I would say lectures average out to about 16 hours a week. It's a fairly dense curriculum, especially if you're pre-med as well. Honestly, classes at Case tend to be more challenging in quantity, and not as much in the difficulty of the material itself. You try to learn a lot, in a short amount of time, you end up barely scraping the surface of a whole lot of material. There are student tutors (who can be extremely helpful and sometimes not so much), as well as teaching assistants - TAs (those are usually graduate students who work in the professor's lab). TAs are most likely going to be helpful. They're available to help explain things that the professor goes over quickly if you schedule a time to meet with them. They hold review sessions before tests (those are *usually* useless). Some professors have very very helpful office hours. Plus that would be a great time to just go and get to know your professors better.

There are great student groups, there's an international student group, there are at least 3 Indian dance groups I can think of, many a capella groups, intramural sports, and club sports just for fun. It's very easy to start your own student group and get funded by the student government for it, if you can prove that it can add to the students' experience on campus. In terms of facilities, Case has its own Rock Wall Gym :) Awesome! It's small, but still pretty nice. The dorms for upperclassmen are pretty much amazing (a little on the expensive side though). There's a coffee shop open until 2 am right next ot the dorms. I'd say the main inconvenience is that a grocery store is a little further than we would like, there's talks of one opening near campus soon though. They also have a small convenience store on campus should you need anything urgent. Generally, Cleveland is an OK city. There's fun stuff to do if you dig a little bit and are willing to find transportation (public transportation is pretty good). I would recommend coolcleveland.com and iheartcleveland.com, and just keep an eye out for things. Give the city a chance, and you'll find stuff to do. It will just take a little work :P. Oh, and Cleveland is cold, so bring your jackets and expect heavy snow in the winter.

Job prospects are good with a BME degree only after you get AT LEAST an MS degree afterwards. If you want a job in industry, get an internship/coop. It's very very important. Look at job prospects early on, talk to the career center and get in touch with company representatives, talk to them about what they look for. If you want to get more involved in research, then you have more graduate school work ahead of you. Note: once you do get a graduate degree, a BME degree can be a lucrative career.
