Come prepared. Coursework is challenging. Experience in the sector is not really required, but you may learn a lot more and contribute to classroom settings.

For this course, I was fairly young when I applied. Everyone else had work ex and I went straight out of my BA. My apps were really strong so I managed. I did not apply through a counsellor or a representative. I applied to Ox, Cam, Sussex and LSE. Visa process was painful for my father who had to put together a lot of papers. Travel tip: Pack less when you go from India- you will buy things you want to bring back and not end up donating to Oxfam.

There are about 8-10 scholarships I applied for. Friends, web searches and university fairs were the source of info on scholarships. My tuition fee was partly funded by the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. scholarship. Its really hard to get a scholarship, but dont buy in to anyone who tells you- you cant or that everything is rigged and so you should stop trying.

Course is a lot of fun. Really hard work. Lectures were intense. About 8 -10 hours of lectures and then tutorials of 4 hours per week. So, a lot of self-study. Lecturers were difficult to catch, but tutors were very forthcoming with their support. The course was very expensive, but theres nothing of the same level in India.

Well, London-size campuses are not much to compare with - but the fact that you are in a big city and have the chance to intern and volunteer and network makes SOAS a great overall experience. People are so diverse, and the city to vibrant! Accomodation was at uni-halls for 108 GBP/week. Student union has the most eclectic shows and interactions. A bit left-wing, so one may find it difficult to adjust if not of those leanings. There were at least 40 societies and clubs to join and a big orientation happens at the start of every year. There are specific South Asian societies.

My job prospects are really good with my degree in Development Studies. I am a Research Associate- Health Communications at the Public Health Foundation of India.
