Visa interviews were very easy. I had to give GRE/TOEFL. For this I read study materials and gave preparatory exams. I did not attend any coaching classes. Travel was smooth. I used local travel agency in the vicinity. I flew Lufthansa. Airline service was ok. They did not offer a student fare. I landed at Dallas Forth Worth (DFW). University is 10 miles from the airport. Baggage allowed was 70 lbs per piece and two pieces per person plus one carry on (7 kg limit on carry on) Excess baggage was allowed but for extra charge. No immigration issues at the port of entry. An Indian Student Organization had pre arranged travel from the airport. Other student/community members volunteer to provide these pickups. Although I already have accommodation arrangements, the same group also provides temporary accommodation arrangements.

Deans Scholarships are available for qualified students during enrollment. Additional scholarships are available as endownments and others via Graduate Research and Graduate Teaching Assistantships. PhD students in Science and Engineering also benefit from STEM tuition waiver.

I used to live in apartment complex on campus with roommates. They are well maintained and clean. Most lecture halls are auditorium style and well equipped with LCD projectors and wireless/wired networking to allow use of laptops during class. Additional labs facilities are available based on the course registered. There are multiple library facilities available with study lounges, food courts and coffee shops, desktop computer stations and laptops that are available for checkout. There is a sports center. It is called Maverick Activities Center (MAC). It is getting increasingly easy to secure part-time jobs. There are a multitude of job options available ranging from assistants in computer labs, dining services, building crews, parking services and other technical jobs for web development etc. Have good campus life with variety of opportunities to mix socially with local community and attractions like six flags over texas, ballpark stadium within the 5 mile perimeter along with malls and movie theaters. Decent night life . Dallas and Fortworth (20 minute drive from Arlington) are famous for their night life. Weather is moderate. Very hot summers but not so cold winters. There are Indian societies. Fine Arts Society of India and Indian Musicial and Cultural Society (IMACS). They organize Cultural events every semester and other special events.

The university has a career services cell. It is reasonably easy for students to get jobs but is very competitive. There is a campus placement process in place. There are various job fairs on campus and job placement agency on campus aids in the process while applying to companies outside. Some of the global organizations which attend these placement events are IBM, RIM Blackberry, MICROSOFT, GOOGLE. The work permit process is dependent on company. There is an alumni society.They have various events for alumni members and invite provide special incentives to Alumni members to participate in events on campus.Alumni help with placements. The alumni network pings departments or use the campus placement group to post job openings or visit campus during job fairs.
