When selecting a course, check out the electives offered. Its not the name of the degree that matters but the electives you took and the skills gained by taking them that matters on the job front. Select a University with good industry affiliations. Enjoy life while you are studying. The pressures of studies and part-time work can be quite crushing and you need to have a few pleasurable interludes to retain your mental balance.

It is more cost-effective to live with friends and take up rented accommodation. BE warned however, that spending the time of day with your friends and living with them are two different things. Plenty of best buddies have come to blows over whose turn it was to buy the sugar. It is usually better to live in the suburbs than to live in the city. Lousy, inept, passing-the-buck administration but good opportunities and good facilities. No matter how desperate you are, do not ever work in an Indian restaurant. I may be biased but Melbourne does seem to be more student-friendly than other Australian cities, even considering Sydney. This is especially so when you are considering the financial aspects of life in Australia.

Placement is non-existent in many universities apart from the occasional workshop. Networking with your professors is the best way to secure a job quickly. Most jobs here require you to be either a permanent resident or a citizen. If you have plans to settle in Australia or even stay here after your studies, please do your groundwork thoroughly. DO NOT go by only what immigration agents tell you. Check the websites, get in touch with Australian authorities. Above all, know what are you are going for and be prepared for it.
