My first exposure to the world outside India was when I went to MSU in 2003. It was an enriching experience that has helped me fully develop my research and career goals.
I was also lucky enough to be fully funded through a teaching assistantship for the entire two years of my program.
Being a land grant university, the Department of Agricultural Economics at MSU is among the best in the country. One of the main focus areas of the department is Agribusiness and supply chain management. There have been many collaborations with universities in India, which gives students from India a greater scope to get involved in research projects. The department also has some excellent faculty working in the area of Environment and Resource Economics.
On campus housing facilities are very good at MSU and the rents are comparable to off-campus accommodation. The bus service is also excellent both within the university and in the East Lansing area. The university ground maintenance facilities are pretty good at clearing the snow regularly so that it does not cause inconvenience to students. I think I should also add that MSU is one of the best universities I have seen in terms of wheel-chair accessibility and facilities for students with disabilities. Students are able to find on campus jobs fairly easily. The cost of living in East Lansing is quite low compared to other university towns. Winters are quite harsh and the state is faced with at least 5 months of intensely cold temperatures and a lot of snow.
