This school have nice exterior and interior is one of the polytechnic in Singapore with such nice architecture design. Not only with nice architecture, the interior of the school is air conditioned. This school give student a warmly and homely feeling because of the open area that joined the entire classroom. Life in Republic Polytechnic (RP) mainly use lab top for their everyday lesson. RP adopt the style of Problem Based Learning (PBL) where every teacher or lecturer is called facilitator. Every student learn in a different style compared to other polytechnic where textbook and notes is required. However in RP student learn through daily discussion with each other and their facilitator. At the end of the day each group are require to present their work base on the problem statement given at the start of the day. Hence learning here is very independent where you have to find the answer yourselves. Grading is based on daily grade and this will be very depended on your contribution to the class as well as the team. Also based on understanding test which covered mainly what you have learn throughout the week. Each semester last 16 week. The overall experience was good because PBL will equip you with the skills of communication with people which is a requirement in every industry. Beside that you will be equip with problem solving skills hence in every industry you work in you will be able to apply it effectively. At the end of your course you will also realise that your social contact is being widen because RP change the class of the student every semester.
Selection process is efficient. For local student requirement is either A level, O level or base on the result of higher nitec for ITE student. However propriety is given to graduating O level student of that year and is based on merit score of 1 English and 4 other relevant subjects. For foreign student requirement: http://www.rp.sg/admissions/intl_students/default.asp. However the selection process is based on merit and requirement of the course.
There are many scholarships and funding offered by various government and private organizations for Singaporean. For scholarships and funding are mainly based on merits and other requirement.
Diploma in biomedical science is a 3 year course. This course you will be able to learn a lot due to the PBL style that RP adopted. However one requires to put in effort to contribute or else this will affect the team as well as your own learning. Beside daily classes one require to study and do their own revision at their own time, although there is sample presentation given by the facilitator at the end of the lesson. Beside theory lesson there is also practical lesson facilitated by the facilitator. At the end of the course you study about health and disease and also about the biological and molecular sciences. This course provide solid foundation for further studies as well as the industry. This course will give you a solid foundation of biomedical science, in year 2 will be able to specialise in this 3 area: Medical Imaging for student for are interested the study of human anatomy as well as applying the physics of radiation to provide information for patients and assisting medical personnel in giving accurate diagnosing. Medical technology is for student who is interested in using technology in solving medical issues. Also using knowledge of biology and chemistry to solve real life health problem. Biomedical Sciences are for student who are interested in the study of health and disease as well as learning about biological and molecular sciences. As well as the desire to improve human lives. Students who do well will be able to have opportunities for industrial attachments conducted locally and overseas during their course of study. This course is also an advantage to people who want to further their studies in overseas. As this course offer programme that open pathway to university that the school are working with beside that student will be exempted from certain module in the university.
Life in RP is rather fun because in your 3 year you will be able to make a lot of friends. Also in each semester in a class of 25 people is rather easy to form friendship. Beside academic aspect student are recommended to join interest group to make their life in RP more interesting especially students who have certain hobby and interest, so beside studying the after hour school life is interesting and rewarding too. For student who are stressed up the school have beautiful lawn for one to enjoy as well as hang out with their friends. The school also host various talk ranging from many kind of categories to help student to gain more insights of their course or their interest. The school administration is rather efficient because the school is connected wirelessly everywhere.
Graduates can work as laboratory technologists, diagnostics and therapeutics. Beside that graduates can as biomedical sales and marketing executives, as well as laboratory technicians in the biomedical science. Job prospects are rather wide, but due to the competition in this demanding field certification plays an important role in position as well as income.
