Being a PhD student at the Pennsylvania State University was a great experience. I was selected by the European Design Automation Association (EDAA) to present my PhD abstract on power and reliability issues of FPGAs, at the esteemed PhD forum of DATE-2005, at Munich, Germany in March 2005. My paper won the, “Best Presentation Award”, at the International Conference on Soft Computing and Intelligent Systems held at Tsukuba, Japan. In addition to that I was able to publish extensively and be involved in a number of research projects.

I converted my candidature from a Masters to a doctoral candidate. I completed my B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Madras.

I was awarded graduate assistantship by Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Pennsylvania State University, University Park.

My dissertation topic was – “Design based solutions for low-power and reliability in contemporary VLSI technologies, at different levels in the design flow”. I worked under Dr. Vijaykrishnan Narayanan who is an Associate Professor in the Department of CSE. We shared a good working relationship and worked on a number of papers together. It was a good learning experience for me.

State College is a campus town and the entire area revolves around the University. The area is referred to as Happy Valley and has reasonably pleasant weather throughout the year. Winters are a bit cold. There are a number of part time jobs available on campus.

I was able to work as a summer intern at IBM and Intel. There are good research opportunities and job prospects available.
