This is my second stint in the UK. I previously did my masters from the UK. The 2 main criterion Indian students look for universities abroad are the quality of institution and the full time funding availability for international students. Unfortunately, the funding issue is in finer print and the information is not easily available. One has to very specific when asking the university concerned about funding. British Council website is a good place to find about all available scholarships though their staff has hardly any idea about them!
Its better to communicate directly with the university as these representatives are businesses and always tend to claim credit for your admission when they dont really help you as in most of the time they have no idea about the subject area of interest and funding issues. The selection process of Sheffield is quite stringent as it is one the best technological universities. The website of the uni is the best place to gather information about all these issues and it takes a heck of a time though to dig them all out! I had my visa delivered in 2 days as i had to be meticulous about the paper work. The whole application system takes almost a year and so students must prepare 1 year in advance to be on the safe side.
I was fortunate enough to get fully funded scholarships for both Masters & PhD. I was a Commonwealth-DFID scholar for my Masters and currently am a Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Award (DHPA) Scholar for my PhD. I got the info from the university websites as I kept tracking them for a quite a while. The main emphasis on getting full time schols is good academic records. Besides, the way to prepare your application also counts. Due to the fierce competition, good tests scores in GRE also helps in the competition though it is not a mandatory requirement for admission. Score on TOEFL/IELTS is mandatory.
One has to be the best of the best to get a good job offer anywhere. In todays competition, its true everywhere.
