I am just enjoying all the facilities in Aston University.I really don't feel that I am in a different country.The student representatives, staff are all very very very helpful and friendly.It is an Open-door cultured university.The staff are really much experienced and got to say a 'WOW' for their deep knowledge.The university is very near to city centre,banks,railway station,health centre and this is an added advantage for me.
It was quite a challenge getting a Place in Aston.I had good academic qualification.Moreover, I had appeared for a qualifying exam IELTS and had a score of 7.5. The Aston Business School had a requirement from student for IELTS min 7.After my IELTS, I applied to the university through a consultancy which was an agent for Aston University during march first week. I got an unconditional offer in april. The visa process was not painful.But getting a student loan was very painful. In my place, not all banks offer edu loan for a high amount. Fortunately ,SBT bank offered the loan and the visa process was just submitting the documents; I got the visa only after 7 working days of submitting it.I travelled in Emirates and the flight is good. Mind your ears will landing because I encountered severe ear pain will landing alone.The only tip to ease the process is keep all the relevant documents proper and please don't procastinate things or else it may lead to last minute hussle.
I don't know much about the scholarships; But I came to know from my consultancy that there are no scholarships for Overseas Students;there are scholarships for EU/UK students. But if an international student is in a financial crisis , there are provisions to apply for a scholarship. And I am not sure about the amount;
My course is Business and you would know it is full of assignments and presentations.We are split into syndicate groups and we do group work as well as individual work. The best bits are the Staff.They are Classic.We have 15 hours of lectures per week and 3 hours of intercultural communication sessions which are optional.Yep, the staff are very helpful.They give tips on how to study our subject and useful information. They not only help us in academically but also outside the subject- Personal development.The course is apt for the fees which we paid. I can give one academic advice to my fellow mates- Prepare the lecturer's topic one day before; then only you would be able to link your views with the lecturer's views and your classmates views and can have a wide understanding about the subjects.You don't have to prepare separately for the exam. The understanding would do.
The campus facilties are amazing.The University is in Birmingham and you know it is an events' city. So, throughout the year, it is in Festival mood.The campus is very near to the city centre,markets,railways station and banks.. all the necessities... just walking distance.It is also one of the safest cities in UK.People here are very friendly. They are very polite... very nice!!!the Accommodation is very good,cozy and warm (for the climate).it is 65GBP per week ..well this is cheap than outside or private accommodation as it is 130GBP per week.Here there are lot of opportunities for part-time jobs.The students' union which we call it students' guild is awesome;Full of fun and light.They organise a lot of events which include voluntary services also.They also have the student's jobshop where students get assistance for part-time jobs.There are a lot many societies to join.It would take more time and space to name them.
The career service at Aston are helping immensely for the students' careers. They help in structuring CV, guiding the student about job sectors and what not.... but even we have to work towards it as the end result of our education is Job .... a very good job.Yes, I will be keeping in touch with the alumni and we have a separate alumni office in the University where the alumni students can use the career service of the university for three years after college.
