I advise students to go for the program they like and not just the rank of the university because all universities are very good here.

I had to take the GRE and the TOEFL examination to be applicable for this course. Most courses in the US have a mandatory GRE and TOEFL scores. These exams are very different from the entrance tests in India. Thus I took classes at a local institute (Genesis, Noida) to master the skills that were tested. I also took an educational counselor (Jamboree, New Delhi) for their help in short listing the universities. This is a very crucial but tedious part of the entire admission process. Therefore, I strongly advice a counselor. I did need an F1 (student) visa. The interview was short and sweet. They basically test your intension to come back to India and not immigrate there in US.I was mainly asked about the finances although no documents were asked. It was very easy. I travelled by British Airways to (Logan) Boston via Heathrow. I booked the tickets through a travel agent which wasn’t very difficult. Although, after June the fare increases a lot. The airline was very comfortable. There was no student fare although I got an extra baggage (2+1) as I was on F1.The airport was 30mins from the university. The immigration was very smooth too. The Universities Indian Society had offered for a pick up but I stayed with my relatives for a while before the orientation.

The University offers assistance in the form of RA/TA and scholarship. However, the competition is tough.

I am very satisfied with the practical approach of the program. Apart from the theory, clinical aspect of the program is excellent. The professors are very knowledgeable and helpful. They mentored me very well till I landed with a job. The lecture halls and spacious and airy. The Library at Tufts has one of the largest collection of books and literature. It is very organized and accessible.

I live in an off campus accommodation shared by 3 more Indian girls. We have a sports complex with all sports facilities. Part time job in the mess and library are fairly easy to find. But, due to visa restrictions off-campus is not allowed. Boston has a rich history and is a very cosmopolitan city. Medford ,is a suburb of Boston. The night life is very happening. The city has a secure and excellent transport system at night. The summers are warm and short but the winters are very cold and it snows a lot!!! We have an International Indian society which helps incoming students and holds cultural events during festivals. US offers a very large tailor built programs.

The supervisor helps with the placement but there isn’t a special cell for my course. You are generally picked up by the hospitals you intern in. The US has a lot of jobs in Occupational Therapy but not many sponsor H1B visa. So its good to search a job before hand. The H1B process is very complicated and tedious. I did not interact with the alumni very much although they have an active society. Alumni do help but I did not require it.
