The University of Southampton is quite good for MBA, but for engineering lines it is excellent. I would definitely recommend it for international students.

The visa interview was quite user-friendly, I must say. I had to write IELTS for which I prepared on my own through the material provided by British Council. I consulted Edwise International. I got my tickets through the Internet, I flew British Airways, it was alright. The airline offered a student fare and allowed extra baggage as well. I landed at London Heathrow, its a 90 minutes drive from the institution. The baggage rules were 40 kgs + 8kgs cabin. I did not face any immigration issues at the port of entry. I did not opt for the University Meet and Greet service at the airport as I came a bit early for that.

I dont know of assistantships or scholarships offered by the university. Applied for one, but nobody got it.

I am happy with the way my program has been structured. The professors are exceptionally brilliant. Lecture halls are excellent, the library is one of the best in the UK.

I am staying at the University Halls of Residence. They are really good coz you can meet so many ppl of different cultures and make friends easily. We are offered full sports facilities, its called University Sports Centre and it has gym, indoor swimming, squash, lawn tennis, etc. Regarding part time jobs here I would advice students to try and try and you will succeed. The social scene in the city is excellent and the night life is fabulous. The weather is typically UK! Extremely unpredictable! There is an Indian student society here - Asian Society. They handle many events.

The university has a placement cell, but its not at all easy for international students to get jobs. There is a campus placement process in place here. Its not very efficient for international students. You can only get a work permit, if a company sponsors it. Otherwise you have to apply for a Highly skilled migrant programme. We have an active alumni network at the university, but I dont know if they help with placements.
