I would seriously recommend Aston to other students for studying in UK. Aston is not just about getting quality education, it is an institution that specializes its students to face all the situations. It has a green campus located in the heart of Birmingham which provides a peaceful environment for students to concentrate in their studies and has many facilities that would be of interest to every student. Besides, its a mix of cultures, thus bringing the whole world to a compact space.
I did not require appearing for any competitive exams for securing admission to my university, the basic criteria requested by my university was to secure a certain percentage in Std.12. I prepared for my Std.12 exams studying through notes provided by various mentors. I was helped my various personal tutors. I was helped by Mrs. Sunita Bose (Aston University Consultant). I needed a VISA for studying in UK. I did not have any VISA interview. The visa interview was moderately easy and quick. It was quite easy to get tickets to UK. I had chosen British Airways being a student for my first flight to UK. I had already travelled with British Airways in the past and had thus chosen it again being satisfied with the services. The airline did not provide any student fare. I landed at London Heathrow Airport which is 93 miles / 150 Kilometers away from Birmingham. We were allowed to carry a baggage of 23Kgs, a hand-luggage of 7Kgs and a Personal bag/ Laptop Bag. We were allowed to carry 17Kgs extra as a student on our outbound journey only with British Airways. There was no immigration problem at the port of disembarkation. My university provided a MEET & GREET service at Birmingham International Airport only, thus I was not able to use this service.
The university does not provide many scholarships. I am currently on an entrance scholarship for my program.
I am highly satisfied with my degree program and the quality of education delivered at Aston. The professors are highly supportive and are willing to help whenever required. The lecture halls are equipped with all the modern facilities and are continuously improved for the betterment of students. The library is located on campus and has a wide variety of required studying material.
I am living in the university halls of accommodation. En-Suite. The university halls are regularly maintained and are very safe and convenient for all the students. The university has 2 on-campus sports facilities which provide all the sports facilities for the students. Its not very easy to get a part time job for all the students. But where there is a will, theres a way. The social life in UK, especially Birmingham is amazing. The students are really supportive and are considerate towards the needs of each other. The nightlife in Birmingham is very happening. There are various students nights where all students can come and enjoy with people of their own age. The weather in Birmingham is unpredictable. It remains cold and experiences rainfall throughout the year. There are many societies in my university. These societies try to organize many events especially for their international students to make them comfortable and homely. These societies also provide support to students all the in their need. The international societies at Aston holds event for various students according to the religion they follow.
The third year is suppose to the placement year for all the students at Aston, it is optional only for international students. Getting a job opportunity in UK for international students may not be as easy as guaranteed by most of the reputed universities. The university recruits many students to work in various departments at the university. Besides, many events are held to help the students seeking for a placement. A job shop is located in the students union building to help students with the job opportunities. The student job shop provides details of the various job opportunities to its students and helps them to secure a suitable work. They also organize various placement events. There are many multinational companies who attend placement fairs to recruit students at Aston. These includes companies like Ernst & Young, Intel corporation, IBM, Delloitte, P & G, BMW, Glaxo Smith etc. There is an Alumni Society at Aston which also helps the university by providing their support. The university approaches the Alumni for all the extra funds required for various developments and the Alumni network generously supports the cause. Aston has a very reputed Alumni, who are working throughout the world on various respectable positions. They attend the placement events held at the university and encourage students to work with them and give them all the required support.
