My advice to new students is: Don't be afraid! Go out, meet new people, try new things, have as many laughs as you can, so long as you study once in a while! I would describe Aberdeen as traditional, peaceful and open.

Freshers' Week was a great big blur that I enjoyed thoroughly! I met tons of new people and had lots of fun seeing that I wasn't the only fish out of water who was set to discover a new pond. I am now a member of 'Treading the Boards' musical society, 'Centre Stage' drama society, the University's Mens basketball and Lacrosse clubs as well as other extracurricular groups outside of the University.

The first time I came to visit the campus, the February before graduating from High school in Belgium, it was beautifully covered in snow and I felt instantly welcomed. I also really like that everything was on-campus, making it easy to find my way around. Although it is extremely different from the nightlife I am used to in Brussels, I have had a fun time this last year and a half going to clubs, concerts, musicals and plays with my friends here in Aberdeen. I found it to be the best way to adapt to the university lifestyle, especially since everyone in accommodation has come from a different background and has a different story to tell. Many of my friends from Johnston Halls, where I lived last year, have now become my best friends here.
