Academically, Michigan is one of the few schools that boasts depth and breadth across nearly all disciplines. If youre not sure what you want to do, you have the freedom to move between literature, science and arts (LSA) to engineering (or apply to the more selective business program, or look into the art, music or kinesiology schools as well). There are plenty of student groups, including fraternities, international student organizations, engineering project teams (all schools can participate in these, as business operations is a huge component). As a college town, there is a huge variety of all ethnic foods and events in ann arbor, especially organized by the student groups. Sports such as football and basketball are popular, and students can buy season tickets to watch the school's team. There are several apartment complexes on the border of all campuses (north campus- engineering + music + art, central campus- LSA, Business, south Campus- sports facilities etc). Bus service runs continuously between these campuses. Computer facilities are abundant, especially on north campus, and all campus grounds are quite pleasant. Use the resources of your individual college, especially advisors, and spend some time exploring degree and course options. Talk to professors, who are almost always willing to talk about general path as well as future courses, and use your peers to help you figure out where to go. You'll also learn about school services by talking to peers and paying attention to handbooks and orientation material throughout your first year. It is a huge school with many options, and most of those are very good. Often times people switch/apply to different schools after the first year (ex. business or engineering) if they were not admitted directly. You should always plan your schedule and make sure you are fulfilling all distribution and course of study requirements- meet with advisors to do that, but take hints from your peers as advisors may not always give you all options.
It is substantially more difficult for international students to get in, but not impossible, and admission is far more likely than financial aid. Significantly less difficult than schools like MIT, Stanford, Berkeley or Ivy League Schools however, for international students.
Difficult for out of state and international students to get assistance, though not impossible if you apply for merit based scholarships after your first year although generally these are not substantial.
International students can work for the university, most popular jobs include research assistants, departmental clerks or technology consultants (for students)
Jobs are available inthe field of Engineering and Business, as well as specific programs in LSA
