Five Branches University was founded in 1984. The university operates on 2 campuses (Santa Cruz and San Jose, California), and has a student enrollment of 450 students. It offers acupuncture and Chinese medicine, healthcare and education.Some of the degrees awarded are: Traditional Chinese Medicine Masters program, The Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine program and Asian Bodywork and Qigong program. Students of the Doctoral program can earn a PhD degree in China, as part of a joint program with Zhejiang Chinese Medical University.
